85 spider turn signal failure

Greetings to all,
I am a recent subscriber to the digest, as well as a recent owner of an
85 alfa spider.  I am in need of assistance in diagnosing, and repairing
a turn signal failure that has manifest itself on my spider.  I have
replaced the flasher unit and checked the fuse panel with no effect.
(left and right turn signal and 4way flasher refuse to function)  When
the turn signal switch is operated, a humming or buzzing noise is heard
eminating from the flasher unit.

I have purchased the appropriate shop manual from IAP, and am in the
process of mapping the turn signal circuitry and suspect that there may
be a problem with the column mounted turn signal switch unit.  Any
advice, experiences or other thoughts on resolving this problem would be
most appreciated.
