Re: Alfetta metric thread query

In AD8-0039 Graham Hilder asks about the respective threads used on (a) the
front caster rod nuts, and (b) the lower wishbone inner pivot nuts of his
Alfetta, which his local fasteners-shop is having trouble identifying.

The front caster rod nut is 12 mm x 1.5 mm, the same size as Alfa lug nuts,
and for nylon lock nuts the Alfa part number is 2120.928.66.00; it is used in
many earlier applications such as the outer end of upper wishbone to ball
joint on 105/115 cars.

The lower wishbone inner pivot nut, 2120.928.56.00, does not appear in any
earlier Alfa applications which show up in parts lists. It is also a nylon
lock nut, and appeared to be 12 mm x 1.25 mm on my thread gauge. It is in fact
a perfect fit on a 164 lug bolt, so I suspect it is part of a new standard
range.

I would like to enter a side plea for on-digest replies to even obscure
questions which deal with facts or methods (no opinions of GM, necessarily).
The digest is an archive-of-record which many may search in the future for
obscure but vital information. Much trivia and much incorrect information is
entered, but posting of even trivial obscure details could increase the
possibility of somebody, someday, being able to find out something he (or she)
needs to know.

 Soapbox mode off,

 John H.
