This is a US perception.

Read the many posts over the years about how the US got a skewed slice of
AR's products: lots of spiders, and the top-end of the range (e.g. no
Juniors, no 4-cyl 75/Milanos, no Suds/33s, no 116 Giuliettas, no '80s 116
coupes, etc.) Generalizing here, but this has probably been the case since
about 1975.

For many people, an Alfa their only private, motorized transportation. This
doesn't make it a toy, this makes it a necessity (ignoring philosophical
arguments about mass transit etc).

These people that can only afford one car, yet still want an Alfa, so get
one that has 4 doors and all that goes with that. That's Alfa's market -
"Real alfisti drive sedans" (Not heard on this digest since December 1998).

Remember "The family car that wins races"? ...
