AC, Shelby etc. *No Alfa Content*/Off-Topic/Etc.

Hi all

I think the confusion with AC Cobra vs. Shelby/Ford Cobra stems from the
fact that Shelby American in the states assembled Cobras in the
seventies or perhaps later. AC went through numerous troubled financial
periods, and eventually ended up buidling Cobras to this day... They
have a Lotus V8 Twin Turbo Cobra model today (the 212 S/C), with carbon
fibre body, as well as 2 versions of the aluminium-bodied Cobra, the 289
FIA (utilising the original 289 jigs and whatever else they use to make
the bodies) and I think a 5-litre Mustang V-8 engined aluminium Cobra
(the Mk IV). There is also a 5-litre carbon-fibre V8 Cobra (the CRS). AC
have also just announced the Mamba, basically a coupe version of the 212
S/C. I hope the company is OK - when last I looked www.accars.so.uk
would not resolve (DNS).

Shelby's own Cobras were prefixed CSX, and had large numbers (I forget
exactly *which* numbers ;-) like 4000 and 6000 after them... I believe
that Shelby American still makes those too.
Shelby American's site still works: http://www.shelbyamerican.com - for
anyone who cares...

I personally rather like the Cobra (and of course the 428, as it was
styled by Frua), despite them not being Italian ;-)

Ciao
