Setting glass bowl fuel pressure regulator

Hi all,

I have a question about the operation of the glass bowl type fuel
filter/pressure regulators used on several early(ish) Alfas, in this case the
2600.

As far as I can tell from examining the mechanism, screwing in the adjuster
screw increases the fuel pressure delivered to the carbs.  Am I correct in
this assesment?

Also, can anyone tell me the correct pressure I should set it to for the
standard 3 Solex setup?  I recall hearing that 2.5 - 3 PSI was correct but I
am not sure.
