Oh damn! Electricity rears its ugly head again.

In #3088 Tony Lupton asks: (Regarding the correct ohm meter reading for
a 'good' set of ignition wires). "But what values are we looking for,
especially with the V6 plug wires?"

*******

I was afraid someone would ask that question. I was hoping Fred or
someone would jump in before my electrical ignorance would once again be
tested (pun intended).

Best I can say, using my ancient Radio Shack (has RS made it to Down
Under?) analog tester, the needle barely moved with the new Crane
ignition, no matter what their length.

Okay, you want specs. I will give them to you with the proviso, you
don't send another email to ask me what they actually mean or to
interpret the readings. This I will leave to those who are one with the
mysterious universe of electricity.

New Crane coil to distributor wire reads: .5 (K?) @ the setting of RX10K
(??).
Old coil to distributor wire: Varies (completelyas in nowhere in
between) from .5 (K?) to 28 (K?) at the same setting. The nowhere in
between / part comes while holding the leads firmly to the ends of the
wires, then moving the ignition wires round and round.

My old ones only jump to the .5 (very good) reading in very limited
positions. In most positions, the wires read 28 or more (not good).

I have not a clue what the reading is / was while they 'were in
position' and the engine bay was very hot.

While terribly unscientific, the setting I get with a new (Crane)
ignition wire with the setting on RX100 is 14. Whilst on the same
setting, touching the two test leads (no resistance), I get 1.

Not trying to make excuses (actually I am), most of my use of the ohm
meter is...do we have a connection (fire in the hole) or not?

I Am intelligent enough to know that the farther down the RX (???) scale
I go, yet still get a decent (low) reading, the better the 'fire'.

Now Tony, aren't you sorry you asked (me)?
