Re: Lofty Aspirations: My GTV6 racer

As a current racer of a GTV6 in ITS, there is a lot positive ideas that
Brad had about his creation of a GTV6 race car. I would purchase a GCR
and then study the rules and look through the different classes. If you
asked, the GTV6 could be reclassified in GT2, or maybe ask for a
classification in Production.

I have many race car friends would build their own cage. None did it to
save any money, but it improve the effectiveness of the roll cage and to
get something better than a simple bolt-in cage. I have an Autopower
bolt-in cage and there are many rule changes and allowances that favor
either a custom cage or a modified bolt-in. What about 100 square in
mounting plates, Nascar door braces, foot well support braces, dashboard
brace, petty bar? You will not get any of these from a bolt-in cage. I
am in the process of adding some of these "upgrades" to my current cage,
but if I had a chance to build a new car, a custom cage would definitely
be high on the list.

Brad mentions coil over front suspension. There are a lot of advantages
of a coil over verses torsion bars. The SZ had coil overs. It would be
nice to adjust ride height and change spring rates. The coil overs are
simpler to perform these tasks than torsion bars. Have any of you ever
tried to adjust 30 mm Hollow torsion bars? They do not change positions
real easy. The selection of spring rates in the GTV6 torsion bars is not
great. You have Shankle sport, super sport, and race ( Group A ).

The DeDion rear suspension does work very well, but so does an
independent rear suspension. There are many possibilities when it comes
to
rear suspension.

I do not want any one to think that I feel the GTV6 is not a good car.
I am one of the few people who continue to race a GTV6 because it is a
handles very well, has superb brakes, and is almost unbreakable. It is
perfect, I do not think so, but what car is. Sounds like Brad might be
headed to a GT class. Good Luck.
