front end setup for the Spider...
- Subject: front end setup for the Spider...

When I examined the old tires taken off FrankenSpider, they were a
bit worn on the inside edge. Fitting the new Yokohama
AVS-Intermediates has improved grip enormously, it's much more fun
now, but the steering feel has taken a bit of a jump backwards. It
seems much lighter than it ought to be and there's a bit of a
tendency to wander on grooved freeway pavement. Also, when I hit the
brakes hard, particularly in the rain, there is a tendency to pull a
little bit to one side or the other.
This all sounds to me like I have too little toe-in. The spec it was
set up to is supposed to be
Caster: 2.2 degrees positive
Camber: 1 degree negative
Toe in: 0.80-1.60mm
I noticed last evening while reading through the appendices of the
Alfa Ricambi catalog that the nominal front suspension setup for the
Spider should be between 3-4mm.
My question to suspension gurus:
Do you think that the additional 2mm toe-in greater than what my
current set up is supposed to be would improve the steering feel and
stability? Or is there something else I should be looking at?
many thanks,
Godfrey
