Sounds more like a leak somewhere along the base of the windshield to me. On 
my 86, the chrome strip along the base covers a rubbery goo that is supposed 
to seal the glass. Had a minor leak there after I replaced the "goo" 
recently. Reapplied it, and the problem has never reoccurred.
