Re: U-505, non alfa but . ..



I can confirm the story. I have been on that sub a few times and always 
find it very interesting. For a real dose of the realities of sub warfare 
first watch Das Boot, then visit the U505 in Chicago. It sent cold shivers 
through me.
My memory tells me that it was off Africa that the boat was captured but my 
last visit was many years ago so I'm not 100% sure. If you can get there, 
do so. The museum has a very informative display detailing how the boat was 
captured, what life on the boat was like, and the effort involved in 
getting it to the museum. A must visit for any military history buff who 
finds himself in the area.
