Re:T-arms & uniballs
The ongoing trunnion-bar saga, started by Steve Smith and marching on with
contributions by Alan Lambert, Mike Grace, Dana Loomis, Gregg Hermann and now
Dana again, currently ends with Dana citing the center radius rod with a
uniball at each end as described in the CRH. Dana does not mention,
presumably because he knows that everyone knows it, that this works with and
only with other means of lateral location- the sliding block in the factory's
version, a Panhard rod in probably most other versions, or one of Arthur
Mallock's or Michael Mumford's ingenious systems.
An all-uniball system would be easy enough, reverting to the upper triangle
introduced on the 1900 and used on the Giuliettas and 102-106 cars, as well
as on the 159 along with its DeDion rear axle, but that leaves us with the
high rear roll center which was the reason for introducing the sliding block
and the upper link Dana describes.
