Alfisti nitpicking

Most of the folks on this digest play close attention to their Alfas. When a
strange sound is heard, or something doesn't work right or fails completely,
they react. Messages are posted on the digest. Car Disks are put into the CD
ROM. Phone calls are made. A fix is found.

Your typical driver in a Camry/Taurus/Golf couldn't care less about any of
the above. As long as the car starts and gets them to Costco, they're happy.

Driving as a passenger in other people's cars I've witnessed the following:
surging idle (750 rpm to 2500 then back again at a stoplight), check engine
light on, busted odometers, very noisy CV joints, sagging shocks/springs,
blue smoke from exhaust, etc. All these cars were made during the 1990s. All
have been driven hundreds if not thousands of miles in this condition. And
not one driver could really give a damn.
