series four Spider Ground Effects

Hello all-

My last winter project is painting my 91 Spider.  While preping the car, i
tried to remove the plastic ground effect that attaches below the door and
runs from well to well.  My manuel states the only thing holding this piece
on are four screws below, and one on each side.  I have already removed
these screws, the ground effect will not budge and I don't want to muscle it
too much for fear of cracking it.  Anyone out there removed one of these
before?
