Diesel Alfa and Lancia Stratos?

You mean to tell me that Lancia Stratos was actually sold here in US?.There were unfortunately so few of them made. And probably even less left in an un-beefed-up version.
About Alfa and diesel:
One that lives in EU accepts diesels as a fact of life. But there is more to it..There are faster diesels and slower diesels. The way I used to see it as a kid (very simple and not too US conform), any car that could do 200 Km/h and 0-100 Km/h in less than 10 secs was a sporty car. That works when you're surrounded by 1.3 to 1.7 4 cylinder cars and diesels.Everything progressed of course so the standards are higher now (remember that the first GTI was a blast doing 0-100 Km/h in like 8 and max 185 Km/h).Sure, the handling is another story..
Where i'm getting at is that this standard is pretty good to measure diesels of the 80's and 90's.One of the fastest diesels available was the 75 2.4 TD.Not too many of them out there from what i've seen. Then came the 164 TD that could do 200 Km/h and was 0-100 Km/h in like 9 secs. Now there are few trends in Diesels. There are those that make the diesels very quiet, almost like gasoline engines.I think there's even a form of "cat" for them that takes mainly care of cold ashes emissions. And Yes, there were diesel convertibles from Audi, and BMW.They barely smelled or made any noise.
Not so with the Alfa...It made NOISE but got there fast. However i must say that the engine was not Alfa or Fiat made.It was a modular construction (tack one more cylinder to the 33 or remove one from the 75).I'm not sure that the 164 Diesel is just an improvement of the 75 T-diesel or new non-modular all-together.However, I forget the name of the manufacturer but for some reason, for a little while I thought it was American or American based or with American connection.
The reason more TD were sold than V6 were taxes and fuel cost.
