GTV6 Alternator

My 1986 GTV6 (79K miles) has a Battery Light glowing when the headlights are 
on bright, but when on normal, no red glow. Is this the sign of an 
alternator going bad or could this possibly be an indication of insufficient 
voltage that could be resolved by the adjustable voltage regulators 
mentioned a few digests back?
