AlfaSud engine removal

I'm about to do an engine swap between my two 'Suds so that the better =
engine is in the better car, but the gearboxes stay where they are.

The workshop manual says to remove the lower crossmember and suspension =
arms, then lift the body off the engine/gearbox unit. Then separate =
engine from gearbox. This sounds like quite a big job for a simple =
engine swap.

Has anyone tried removing the engine the usual way, through the bonnet =
opening, leaving the gearbox in place??
