More Metric

I recently went to Amazon Hose and Rubber in Orlando,
a quite large commercial manufacturer/distributor.I
was helping a friend and needed some VHT Silicone hose
to route an exhaust on a sailboat generator.  The
generator has a Honda engine and the hose I needed
would be 14mm.  I didn't want to confuse, Jimmy the
salesman, so I told him I needed 9/16" I.D.  He found
it and cut what I needed and in conversation it came
out what I needed it for.  I said, that it was a
Japanese engine and was 14mm, but 9/16" is very close.
 This man, Jimmy, who was seemingly a very intelligent
and competent individual looked at me and shook his
head saying. 

"That's the problem with the metric stuff. It wouldn't
be bad if it was all the same like inches, but you got
your Japanese metric and your German metric and
Italian metric and every other darn thing."

Wanna know why the USA will never see full use of the
metric system?  Ask Jimmy!
