When I finally decided to 'join in' and over the past few days ask a couple

I can understand your disappointment, the same thing has happened to me. 
 But, hey, ask again.  It could be that the person who knew the answer is 
behind on reading the Digest, or his kids were arguing and he skipped the 
question, or just had a brain fart.
