Eric,
Your jack will probably raise the car before it compresses the spring
enough to unload the suspension.
A technique that worked for me on the Giulietta is to put a chain
around under the jack and over the upper a-arm, securing the chain
with a bolt and nut through the end links. Then when you raise the
jack the spring will compress and you can unbolt the upright. We then
put clips on the springs to hold them partly compressed and took them
out. Unbolt the anti-roll bar, the shocks and the limit cables first.
