164S tire choice

come spring - and the passing of all aluminum oxide danger, new 16" 156
wheels will go on the 164S. the brad anesi article in the new alfa owner
touts the Toyo Proxes TS-1, a tire that has received a lot of alfa
digester praise recently. although a part of me is reserved about
throwing anything japanese onto an italian car, this seems like a sure
choice. but i've also heard praise of various Dunlop models, recall
mention of a Yokohama, and am constantly bombarded by a friend who won't
shut up about the Pirelli P-Zero. i will be running these as 205-55-16's
year round, drive fairly aggressively (but no track driving), and live in
a region that sees some snow and ice but not enough to warrant too much
preoccupation. mostly dry weather performance and value are my
interests, tread wear less so. i say mostly because i am now running
205-65-15 Pirelli P-6000, and cannot get over how poorly they handle in
snow. so much the better if the new ones can maintain some dignity in
those conditions (btw, i am not overly impressed with the Pirelli's dry
weather performance either).

also, i am assuming this 205-55-16 size is closest to stock. can i
expect no speedo deviation from the factory 195-65-15?

i know this is not a new topic so use your judgement on whether to e-mail
me exclusively off-digest. i know i will hear some insightful, maybe
even incendiary, suggestions!

thanks in advance,
