In the 26 years I've owned my '73 Spider, I've had the "thin sheetmetal
rattle" @ approx. 3K RPM that is being described a few times. In all cases
it was because the sump guard had been pushed up against the oil
sump. Either replacing the guard or bending back out to it's original
shape has always fixed the problem. The 2L engine seems to have a natural
vibration band from 3,000 to 3,500 RPM. Something else might be rattling,
but check the sump guard (if you have one).
