Re: Marvel Mystery Oil

Gordy, Gordy, Gordy, baiting me already in this young year. :-)

I can honestly say that my recently rebuilt 1600 burns no oil and that there
is never a hint of oil smoke from the tailpipe. I can sit behind the wheel of
my '63 Spider and confidently report that the view through the rearview
mirror is unencumbered by poorly combusted lubrication residue.

Of course, the rest of the report is that I have a clear view of the engine
sitting on a stand in front of the car and that the rearview mirror is filled
with a vision of the closed garage door. :-)

I must confess that I do have a recently rebuilt 1600 that is sitting out of
the car right now. A few squirts of oil (makes little difference which kind)
down the plug holes and a hand turn of the crank now and then keeps a little
lube on the walls. Prayers make up the rest of the preventative maintenance
routine.

I'm going to flush the cylinders with mineral spirits (and let it dry) before
firing it up, so I can get the rings to seat after pouring in all that oil. A
little unusual, but that's what I get for rebuilding the engine first ...

Thanks, Gordy!
