Wheels and Tires on the Giulia Super
Slight disagreement between Andy Kress and Mike Valant; Andy says "the stock
wheels for Supers were 4.5 x 15s" while Mike says "The original wheels were 5
X 15, actually, sporting the equivalent (more or less) of a 155-15 or a
165-15 tire". My old Super and the books agree with Andy, and there wasn't
any "the equivalent (more or less)" about the tire size; they WERE 155-15. I
didn't have any trouble with 165-14s on the Super, and the factory used them
on the later versions of the same hull. I would be dubious about trying a
165-15 without sheet-metal changes; never tried them on the Super, but did
briefly have 165-15 Pirelli BS-3s on a Giulietta and they did rub badly. Alfa
clearances tended to be tight in that era; they changed the rear quarter
panels on the coupe when they went to 165-14. The 105/115 Spiders, being
appreciably wider for styling reasons than the coupes and sedans, had a lot
more room for rubber without rubbing.
