Sensible Engine Swaps

I was interested to read the discussion on the Digest about swapping a V6
into a Berlina. I can't imagine why anyone would go to this trouble, when a
Twin Spark produceses roughly the same power with much less weight and far
fewer packaging problems. Personally, I think it would be much smarter to
mail order a Twin Spark and stick it into an Alfetta Berlina (far easier
than into a 105/115 due to the absence of a pilot shaft from the 105/115
transmission).

Not only woule the installation be easier, but you would avoid the drastic
upsetting of the suspension settings that the V-6 would cause in any car
engineered for the much lighter 4. After all, we like these cars because
they drive well, not because they have the most powerful engines around.
Bastardizing is one thing, wanton destruction of a good car's birth right is
something else again.

The other Alfa engine swap that clearly makes sense from both these
perspectives is of course the 3 L Milano Verde engine into any GTV-6.
