Deleting Milano's Self-leveling

So,

The back-end on my '88 Milano Gold automatic has
ceased rising to the occasion.

The gentelman at Omega Motorsport In Culver City CA
recommends removing the self-leveling system and
replacing with good old standard shocks.  He estimated
a 5 hour job.

I'm contemplating doing it myself.

Any thoughts, words of wisdom/warning for the
do-it-yourselfer from those whom have traveled this
road?
