re: rear end clunk in Alfetta

Stefano -

Try looking at the exhaust system. I had a new (very non-Alfa) exhaust sytem
on my Alfetta some months ago. I have a yurbo muffler in the back, next to
the spare tire well. I, too, had clunks and banging going on back there. I
thought, maybe a bad shock or shock bushings. (I recently has a Koni high
pressure gas go bad on the front with simnilar symptoms.)

I brought the car over to my mechanic, who has a legit hoist. We tried moving
everyuthing that could move, under the car. Seems that the "new" muffler is
banging into the spare tire well. Expansion joints on the freeway, higher
frequency bumps, all make it go crazy. Seems like I am going to have to
install a muffler for the muffler. Likely some rubber that I glue to the
muffler, to soften the sound getting into the car.

Try looking at the hangers, also. They get old and weak with age. Old
exhaust hangers can lead to all sorts of intereseting noises. AMHIK. Been
there, done that.

Good luck with finding the noises.
