105 knuckles, spindles, calipers



Just to add more to the 105 front end discussion:

1.  It is my understanding that the 1750/2000 front spindle does incorporate
a raised upper attachment point, something learned from the hallowed
separate GTA "knuckle-riser" piece that bolted to the 1600 front spindle to
raise the upper control arm attachment point.  Certainly the 1750/2000
spindles and whatnot are different; they have the rubber bump stop outboard
of the spring, whereas the 105 1600 cars have it within the spring, so it is
unreachable and can trap water and rust away more easily.  All that said,
the whole suspension unit is interchangeable from car to car within the
105/115 range.  Note also that early 105 1600s have two-bolt lower control
arm attachments to the crossmember, while somewhere around 1967 the
four-bolt lower control arm attachment got phased in, at least on GTVs,
though I haven't seen it on a US Giulia sedan.

2.  The caliper attachment bolt pattern for the Dunlop calipers and ATE
calipers is different, along with the disk size and splash shield.  I tried
fitting ATE calipers and disks onto a Dunlop car without changing the
spindles 15 years ago and it didn't work.  I had to swap the entire front
suspensions, which worked fine, though it was a hell of a lot more work.

3.  I don't know whether 14 inch wheels will fit on a Dunlop car, but they
definitely don't fit on a drum brake car without turning the drums down
some, which some people have done.
