VW Bus with Sud Power !

Well I'm glad to be back from my trip and read the most recent
Digest first. Hay Bill, it's Jim your good customer in Boston, Ma. USA!
"Replace with a Sud Engine" This isn't to far from reality. I don't
know if most of the Digest remembers me, but I'm sure the boys from
NZ do. They helped me out when I was considering buying the ex-Alfa USA
test 33 type 1.7 boxer that was for sale a while back from a former USA
Alfa
employee. Well I got it (33 type 1.7 with twin carbs) along with a 33 type
transaxle to put in my 1984 Alfa Romeo Sud Sprint QV 1.5. I'd like to
thank Graham and Chris again for there help in the past. Anyway, I promised
the 1.5 twin carb engine to Fred to use in his Gyrocopter, but think this
is a defunct project now. I need to check with him first. The deal went if
the copter went down or he sold it, I got the engine back, so I could keep
the OE setup in storage. Anyway, my project to install the 1.7 33 into the
1.5 Sprint QV is on hold until next winter, but if you can wait let me know
the next time I call. Brian Shorey has graciously offered to help and to
let
me use his lift too!! We will inform the masses as we progress with the
project.
So, how about a 1.5 twin carb (105hp) Alfa boxer (already in the USA) in
that bus ?
Trade you for that wood shift nob in your trunk !

Anyhow, a few things I need to think about first before we start this
project:
I ended up with two new front section exhausts, too. Can I replace the twin
carb 1.5 with 1.7 and 33 type transaxle and keep the inboard brakes ?
This is quicker because I don't have the outboard brakes and suspension
parts, but
can cut up one of the new front exhaust sections to make it around the
inboard
brakes. Will the inboard fronts handle the 117hp (I think?) and heat of the
1.7
or should I just find the 33 type front suspension and outboard brakes
parts ?

Hay Brain, how did you like that test drive around your neighborhood in the
Sud Sprint?

Thanks All,
Jim T.

With Chris's sugestion to use a Sud Boxer Engine:

>Chris Kane (Wgtn, NZ, with Graham hilder and Les Singh)

>85 Alfa Sprint QV

And Tony's comments too:

>If you had access to one, what about using a 1.7L out of a 33/Sprint?
>Probably much less panel beating required to make it fit.
