Re: alfa-digest V7 #1205

Had the same issue with my '86 Spider at 98,000 miles. Odo/Trip quit
working after pushing trip reset...speedometer still worked fine. (Broken
speedo cable had been replaced at about 85,000 when speedo, odo, and trip
quit in unison.) I pulled the front of the instrument pod and then the
instrument cluster within, finally removing speedometer unit from cluster.
The mile wheels of the trip odometer reside on a spindle that had slipped
out of one of its two mounting holes when the reset button was pressed.
This, in turn, was jamming up the odometer. I put the trip spindle back in
place, reassembled all, and it worked great -- until my a few weeks ago when
my brother borrowed the car and promptly pressed the trip reset. I'm now
stuck at 99,500, and need to repeat the "fix." I am considering
disabling/removing the reset button to prevent this happening again as the
odometer is much more important to me than the trip meter.
