Big Jolt in Milano

Had this problem since I've owned my Milano.

It revs well up to 5200, but then will give a big jolt. Once, I
tried to accelerate through it and the car simply died. I later
found out that the wire which runs into the side of the
distributor had come out of its socket. I'm reluctant to try
that trick again. Any ideas?
