Joe - sounds like you may have a bad ground in the tail light assembly. The 
electricity is bleeding wherever it can to complete the circuit (it likes to 
follow the path of least resistance), and it is now going through those 
lights you described.

Go check, clean, and dress the grounds on your rear tail light assemblies (do 
both, you'll feel better) and your GTV6 turn signals should return to more 
placid and predictable operation. Then, you will be able to devote your FULL 
attention to what is happening out the windscreen. :-)
