my guess :>) is that you have a faulty sender - but just barely.  when you rev
the engine to ~4k rpms, there's enough movement thru the vibration to make (or,
in this case, is it to actually break?) the connection.  then the lite goes off.
i'd think dressing the cable connections won't help, because if *these* were the
culprits, the lite would *never* come on, even when over-heated....
