spider oil vapor seperater

my 78 spider has begun leaking fairly large amounts of oil into the
engine compartment via the gas exit hose for the oil vapor seperater.  it
never noticably did this before, but does it now such that when this oil
heats the fumes become unbearable.  someone suggested routing the hose
into one (of the dual) weber carburetors.  is this a good bad idea? 
should i get a new unit?  and is this a normal problem/occurence on
spiders?
