164 Headlights & Canada

Canadian 164 headlights and parking lights are on with the ignition. This is
a safety feature and it works most of the time but what if you want to work
on the car, need the ignition on but don't want to run-down the battery?
What if it is foggy and you want parking lights and fog light without
headlights? I have an answer.

The headlights come on thanks to a relay located under rear ash tray etc.
console. It is accessible by removing the rear ashtray and console retaining
screws. The relay is plugged into a pink receptacle fastened to the bottom
side of the console. I cut the white wire to the # 86 terminal and rooted it
to a switch that I mounted in the "spare change" opening in the console that
is about 5 cm X 15 cm. (2" X 6" South of the Canadian border). This gives me
choice: lights on automatically or lights off unless turned on at the stalk
at the steering wheel.
