American car in EU

I once saw an article in Auto bild about registering an american car in 
EU.The germans went and bought a Chrysler LeBaron convertible, shipped it, 
then went to some type of inspection, at which time, the headlights had to be 
converted to EU pattern beam (easy on a sealed beam unit, as u just replace 
the whole thing), then had to pass state inspection, they had to pay custom 
tax and that was that.I remember that the conclusion of the article was that 
this was the way to save like $ 1500 of the price of acquiring an american 
car in Germany from a german local used car dealer.It didn't seem to involve 
great problems.
I have the Autobild collection back at my parents home in Romania otherwise i 
would open up the magazine and come up with names and phone numbers of 
agencies involved.
