Water Pump Removal

Clockwise or Couter-clockwise? Prior to removing the water pump from my
'78 Alfetta GT the harmonic balancer/pulley must be removed. Which
direction do you turn the bolt to remove it? How do you keep the
crankshaft stationary? Note: I do not have access to pnuematic tools so
an impact wrench is not an option.
