V6 head removal

I'm currently tearing down my Milano's engine to do a head rebuild.  All has 
been going well so far.  However, I'm faced with the dilema of how to get the 
heads off.  Everything is disassembled.
What are the do's and dont's on this?  Can I give it a rap with a 2 x 4 and a 
hammer? What are the tricks, if any.  When I did my GTV6 a few years ago, 
both heads just lifted reight off.  Not this time!  Any and all help 
appreciated.
