ted,

don't be foolish - don't you know it's impossible to improve upon the
factory design? do you really think that some guy in australia, of all
places, could possibly improve upon the original plastic factory pieces by
using bronze and steel?

does anybody know *why* the factory chose to use plastic instead of bronze
for these gears? without a comprehensive understanding of the entire 164,
from bumper to bumper, you cannot possibly understand why the factory chose
to use the materials that they did, and what possible side effects you might
encounter should you choose to second guess their solution.

*nobody* can improve upon the factory design. heavier gears in the stepper
motor will result in undue stress on the shaft, which in turn will cause a
vibration that could manifest itself in the form of in imbalance at the
right front wheel.

gads, i bet there's an aftermarket oil filter on your car too! or superpro
bushings..

bs

p.s. for the humor impaired, the above post was a joke (including the part
about the australians). everybody knows i'm in favor of improvements, where
they make sense. i'm just wondering why the 'factory is perfect' crowd has
never spoken up about the stepper motors...
