1986 spider graduate

I am a first time recent owner of a 1986 spider graduate, the fan is not 
working,
but sometimes the vents open by themselves. Is this from the wind ? also I 
have read that  it is common on these cars to hear a little noise when 
shifting from 1st to second. is this true ? ant type of info would be 
appreciated
