Re: Tech Question: Why no dry sump in

<< Are boxer engines always dry sump? >>

Hmm, my Alfasud doesn't have a dry sump. Nor does any boxer-engined Sprint
or 33 I've seen, even the quad-cam 16v.

We have had to weld baffles into the sump to prevent starving the oil pickup
when cornering hard in sprints, but I don't think that's a boxer-specific
problem. Seems to work quite well, so we haven't looked at dry sumps. Have
been thinking about installing an oil cooler though. I don't have an oil
temperature gauge so I don't know how hot things are getting down there.
Does anyone have any recommendations for me? The car is double entered in
club sprints, so it runs in about 6 sessions per day well spaced apart, five
laps each, plus 20 minutes or so of practice. I wonder if my oil is getting
hot enough to justify oil cooling? I'm very keen on making this car as
reliable as possible.
