Mufflers 87 Spider

What is the correct set-up for the exhaust system on an 87 Spider?  My car
seems to be missing the rear muffler as there is only a pipe behind the
center muffler.  Is this as it should be or has some PO saved a buck and did
a cheapo repair job?  There is no heat shield where the rear muffler would
be.
