 Fiat declines comment on report DaimlerChrysler interested in acquisition

 MILAN, Italy -- Fiat SpA declined to comment Monday on a published report
that
 DaimlerChrysler AG is interested in acquiring Fiat's automotive operations.

 Juergen Hubbert, in charge of DaimlerChrysler's automotive operations,
 told Die Welt in a report published Saturday that while DaimlerChrysler was
 interested in Fiat, no deal was likely soon.

 "We've seen that the Fiat owners in reality don't even want to sell yet,"
Hubbert was
  quoted as saying.

 The Agnelli family, which controls about 30 percent of Fiat, has indicated
it is open to a
 major alliance, but that there won't be any outright sale of the company.
