Coke has a small amount of phosphoric acid in it, which is the main
ingredient of the metal prep acid that bodyshops use. If you're going to
bother at all to detail the fasteners, then PLEASE - use the professional
chemical available at most any FLAPS. If you want to hot dip galvanize the
fasteners after cleaning them, this will work where there is LOTS of thread
clearance like on body bolts that thread into speednuts. Otherwise, the
thickness and sloppiness of the galvanizing may require you to clean all the
fastener threads with taps and dies - a heck of lot of extra work!

Been there, seen others do that, got the T-shirt.
