Various about 164

I cannot argue that intake or any part in a car is better designed by the
manufacturer, or by a specialized company. However, if one doesn't have the
money to fund extensive research, and considering minor modifications, one
might try to "guess" some facts.
Here ,by the way, are some facts about 164
In Europe -both advertized and reported- even to the digest by owners, 164
3.0 V6 12 valves take about 27 to 28 MPG.Here however, everyone reports much
lower figures.
As opposed to Europe, there is no regulation here forcing manufacturers to
speciffically disclose in the owner's manual booklet and everywhere the gas
mileage at 90 Km/h (55 MPH)
at 120 Km/h
 In urban usage
Also they won't tell you from the very same booklet the 0-100 Km/h ( EVERY
car however slow or small has that in owner's manual there), and the top
speed. Now the figures i talk about are TESTED figures, the type we talk here
in the digest about, not indications of the instruments aboard.
Ok, to go back to the subject, the consumption difference , put together with
the fact that all modules inside 164 have the Biiiig "USA model" sticker on
them, to me, mean that some settings in the electronics may differ here, a
bit, in the advantage of performance, maybe. It wouldn't be the first time
when people from outside US look for parts from US model.
Ok, where I'm getting at is that once , say, the research is complete on a
certain model, and say the manufacturer has all ready, variations are
possible,Differences may happen, cause they have to balance even stuff like
gas mileage, for places where it really matters.BTW, my work, to me on my car
is more like a hobby, than scientiffic research and i understand the
difference, since I'm an engineer. However, i think that optimizing the intake
of air can be done (not that what i'm doing is optimization) from COUPLE of
points of view. One can be consumption, other can relate to power..
You know that basically one can remove the plastic pipe under air box ,
unrivet it, turn it 180 degrees, trim it,bolt it on, and have a whole lot
more flow of cool air coming in?maybe it's not just coincidence... (well i'm
working on how much trimming now)
