I use a "special tool" for radiator and heater core checks. Its called a
bicycle inner tube. Ten speed (or 20 speed) tube good for heater core
and mountain bike tube for radiator. Cut them in half and clamp each end
on inlet and outlet tubes. Pump up with air and there you go. Don't
exceede radiator pressure cap rating.
