Alfetta/GTV-6/Milano rear brakes

I'm just wondering what the general consensus is on the action of the rear
parking brake.  I've taken my Verde's rear caliper apart, and have found
that it isn't a hydraulic parking brake like I had thought, but instead it
is a mechanical action.  Any thoughts on this, or do I have it all wrong?
