Methinks you are confusing socialism with a police state, totalitarianist
government. California more closely resembles the latter than the former
some ways, while remaining home to thousands of happy hippy-dippy Alfa
owners as well. 

My company pays me to live here and everytime I see the paycheck, I'm
happy to bear the burden. I like the place anyway, regardless of some of
its more unpleasant aspects. I haven't found anywhere that's perfect yet.
