Spider battery drain

Perhaps someone who owns a Spider can give me some advice:  I own a 1994 
Veloce, and every so often, when I try to start it, I find the battery has 
been drained.  Charging it for a day or so usually solves the symptom, but 
not the problem.

I finally figured it out- the interior light (by the driver's knees) won't 
shut off.  The "switch" is sort of a paddle switch, and when I play with it 
and press it into either direction, the light bulb remains on.

Does anyone know - 1) If I take the light bulb out, will the drain of the 
battery cease? 

Which leads to my next question-  2) How do I remove the light bulb?
