GTV Carpets
The 1973&74 GTVs had the one piece molded short loop carpet. When Road &
Track road tested the 2000GTV in 1972 (8/72) they showed photos of wires
protruding from the front seat belt retractor by the multi piece carpet. The
photo also shows it as short loop and bound at the edges. At that time the
opinions of R&T were taken somewhat seriously and corrected. All multi piece
pile carpets were aftermarket replacements which were probably easier to
manufacture. The cars are currently 23 to 25 years old and explains the
replacement by aftermarket multi-piece sets in various years, which were
probably more economical compared to original parts prices. Can anyone
imagine the list price of NOS one piece original carpet?
