I've never tried this myself Marko, but how about getting some rigid
styrofoam insulation as is used in external house applications these days.
Cut it into three pieces the size of the rectangular overall dimensions of
the chrome strip. Take one of them and mark the outline of the chrome trim.
Then cut out that outline so that the chrome strip will fit between the two
remaining "halves".  Then sandwich it with the other two full pieces. Wrap
it up and send it on its way.
